Thin spots

The membrane between dream and waking is not the same everywhere. It is tidal. In certain places and at certain moments it runs thin, and the distance between the awake and the sleeping almost closes.

• A stairwell between two floors that don’t quite line up.
• The silence after a song ends, before the next begins.
• A building during the hour its lights are being replaced.
• The threshold of a room no one has named.

A map of a city’s thin spots is the single most dangerous document in this world.

Who uses it

Thin spots are where contact, witchcraft, feeding and remembering all happen. Witches ride them to reach a sleeping self that isn’t theirs. A Hollow cannot use them at all, and has to build its own crossing instead.
